It has been sometimes since I last visited Kuching, Sarawak when Holiday Inn was still there, now it is Grand Magaretha..no wonder you can't get it on the web anymore. Hotel Pullman is the new land mark, Government rate is RM 180++ but I stayed at Riverside Majestic where the rate was RM195++ for Government, being non-Government I had to pay RM260++, hotels are not cheap anymore even for old establishment.
The trip to Kuching was a business trip so I did not call many old friends in town. Nevertheless still managed to have late 3-layered tea at Station 1 the hottest hang-out in Kuching now where many teeenagers hanged out and both of us the looked out-of-place being older than most of the patrons. It is situated next door to Hotel Pullman. Me and Bob talked about our peers who will be retired this year and some next year. Both of us will retire from work a little bit later, Bob had decided to relocate to Nilai Spring Golf & Country Club Residence while I will be next door to Perangsang Templer Golf Club.
The subject of golf quickly came into the conversation and we discussed about equipment and how they affect distance and whether we should use steel or graphite shaft at this age. Well if we can still hit 6-iron to 160 metres, we are allright! My schoolmates Mazlan called to say hello and he just played golf at KGS with another schoolmate Roslan the day before, so many friendly golfers in Kuching, must bring my golf set on my next trip.
During my 2 days 1 night stay in Kuching, liked the trip across the river with Haslan my office colleague where we bought some kek lapis, err..the wet ones (Kueh Lapis basah!). Having teh tarik and looking at Kuching from across the river is something any visitors should do..very nice scene for photography. My host from Kuching took us for sightseeing around Kuching Utara and Selatan and later to Pasar Satok to buy the Terubuk Masin and Terubuk local..nice to eat with Nasi lemak.
Breakfast at the Hotel was followed by another breakfast near Pejabat Mara where we had Mee Kolok and Laksa Sarawak. Later we we went for Friday Prayer at the Masjid Lama and had rice with Oxtail soup before departing to Kuching Airport. This was really a `Makan' trip because last night we had dinner at the Permata seafood centre, the crabs, prawns, sabah vegetables, midin and the grilled Terubuk with eggs was fantastics.
Hope to come back soon to close the business deal in May 2011...
